La Grange reinvents The Wheel with Heartbreaker humbuckers
Boutique single cut electric now fitted with Sheptone Heartbreaker humbuckers
The new revamped The Wheel single cut by La Grange now comes fitted with a pair of Sheptone Heartbreaker humbuckers, instead of the P90s used for the previous incarnations of this guitar.
La Grange The Wheel
Built by La Grange founder Benjamin Wasservogel, the new Wheel is loaded with Sheptone Heartbreaker humbuckers. But it retails all the classic lines of a single cut guitar.
This boutique build features a solid korina body with a dog-hair, open-grain finish, a set ‘C- shape’ maple neck with a purple heart stripe and an ebony fretboard. It comes fitted with Jescar jumbo frets and so I would imagine it will play smooth as silk.
All the woods used are associated with great guitar tone, so expect some smooth retro flavoured tonal variations from this new humbucker loaded model.
Sheptone Heartbreaker
Those Sheptone Heartbreaker pickups are wired via a a three-way pickup selector and master volume and tone controls (both use CTS 250K pots). The electronics package includes an orange drop 22K capacitor and a treble bleed circuit. The pickups are PAF-inspired humbuckers with Alnico 5 magnets and 42 plain enamel wire.
This guitar comes with a classic vintage-style nickel ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge and Gotoh tuners, though you can also order it with an optional Bigsby B5 vibrato if you like.
The video below will give you some idea of what to expect tonally from this boutique single cut. However, the model in the video is the P90 version, so we will have to wait until La Grange does another one with a Sheptone-loaded model.
This guitar looks well worth checking out and certainly a viable alternative the more mainstream single cut models on offer elsewhere.
