From the man himself, as one of the greatest analogue pro audio equipment designers around, Rupert Neve Designs present a new headphone amplifier. This headphone amp is designed for achieving the greatest performance from any professional headphones, without cutting any corners.

Lifted from their 5060 Centerpiece Desktop Mixer, they are describing this as a 24V reference-quality headphone amplifier. Many headphone outputs, even on professional grade equipment can be disappointing, often through lack of space for the necessary electronics. With the focus on quality, Rupert Neve Designs say the RNHP “inspires an artist to give their best performance, lets an engineer make better choices in mic and placement, gives a mix engineer reliable translation of EQ and dynamics adjustments, or lets a music listener appreciate the full depth and detail of a recording”.

The RNHP sports 3 different specially calibrated inputs: a combo XLR/TRS +4db balanced input for professional equipment, a phono input for hifi style gear, and a stereo mini jack socket for any device with a 3.5mm headphone output such as a mobile phone. The RNHP can also be fitted to VESA 100 compatible mount for easy positioning in your listening environment. This is clearly a very well thought through design for the modern world.

The RNHP is expected to start shipping in May, and the recommended retail price will be 549 USD. I’m sure this product will sound incredible, but will of course depend on the source and your choice of headphones. My only query without hearing one yet is if it will add any colour, but it ought to be very transparent.
