John Mayer has uploaded a photo of himself to his Instagram account holding what can only be described as a Hot Pink version of his PRS Silver Sky signature model, along with the date June 4 and “Friday” as a title. Is a new finish option on the cards?
PRS John Mayer Silver Sky – in Hot Pink?
One thing we know for sure is that Mr Mayer has a new solo album coming out, so this post will probably be tied to that. But could the date of 4 June and a photo of a Hot Pink Silver Sky – which would be a new colour for his Silver Sky guitar – mean that PRS is about to drop a new finish for his signature model? Both Mayer’s Instagram and Facebook accounts are showing the ‘Friday Weekly’ image, which has the text “June 4, 2021” and “99c” along with “John Mayer Shares Details… …And Music!”.
“Did, I say April? I meant June.”
The PRS Silver Sky is currently offered in limited edition polychromatic finishes including Nebula and Lunar Ice. Will a Hot Pink option be added for 2021? Summer NAMM is only a month or so away, which would fit well with any announcement of a new finish.
The Silver Sky was a controversial signature model when it launched, with a very similar outline to one of Mayer’s previous guitars built in connection with his endorsement of Fender. A lot of PRS fans got quite vocal about its shape and construction techniques, based on a classic ’50s design from California. John Mayer even made a video to counter all the backlash he got from certain parts of the guitar community at the time.
Friday could, of course, just be the name of his new solo album and this could all be a fuss over nothing, so we will have to wait until the end of the week to find out.
