Celebrating the silver jubilee year for its renowned drive pedal, Way Huge Electronics’ has announced the Red Llama 25th Anniversary Edition, which is limited to 1000 units worldwide. Now sporting an appropriate silver paint job (can you see what they did there?), the relaunched edition also comes equipped with a neat little functional upgrade.
The Red Llama has always been one of the company’s most popular overdrive pedals. And for good reason! It has a creamy, transparent drive tone that can either be left on and used gently to enhance your clean tone or set to ‘face melt’ for great sustain with smooth drive tones.
Way Huge Electronics have come up with the idea of making a Red Llama 25th anniversary edition to celebrate its quarter century. It has a silver paint job, and features an added Hi-Cut knob to tame the high frequencies if you’re finding them a bit too aggressive.
With the run limited to only 1000 units worldwide, it may be an idea to pre-order one, as these could sell out fairly rapidly. I try to avoid buying into these marketing ploys, but the original Red Llama pedal is a great pedal and if I was in the market for one then I would probably get one of these versions.
If you want to pre-order today, you’ll be doing it blind as dealers have yet to receive stock. The price is pretty reasonable for a pedal with this reputation.
The announcement was pretty ‘under the radar’ considering that Way Huge stuff is so popular, but I think Jeorge Tripps and Dunlop have tried to maintain the boutique ‘small builder’ mystique of the brand, even though they are essentially now a company that mass produces effect pedals. They are still all made in the USA, though, and the ones I own are bullet proof with quality components throughout. I get the impression that Mr Tripps keeps a close eye on his brand, and I hope they stay committed to keeping quality control standards high.
