Guitar Gear Gems

This week, Guitar Gear Gems feature the 30th-anniversary pedal release from Jeorge Tripp’s Way Huge brand and the re-release of their classic little Red Llama overdrive pedal, which has just gotten smaller for 2022. Then we have an in-depth rundown of Steve Vai’s gear for his 2022 Inviolate European tour. Just check out that mental Hydra guitar!

Way Huge 30th

This Way Huge 30th Anniversary Red Llama MK III is the latest pedal to get the ‘Smalls’ overhaul. Essentially, shrunk down in size, yet as close to the original model as possible in terms of the circuit.

Overdrive

The new MKIII is a “painstaking recreation” of the original overdrive pedal and should be available very soon. Jeorge Tripps now makes his pedals under the Jim Dunlop umbrella, but originally, these boutique pedals were all built by him, by hand back in the ’90s. This new compact Smalls version should sound great and being smaller is always a bonus for busy pedalboards.

I’m a big fan of the Way Huge pedal range and must own a good chunk of them myself. This latest Red Llama MK III is certainly now on my radar.

MSRP – USD 149.99

Inviolate

Certainly an unmissable video for all the Steve Vai fans and if you wanted to know what he was using for the 2022 Inviolate European tour then it pretty much covers everything from guitars, effect pedals, amps and outboard gear.

Vai has a range of signature model guitars available from Ibanez and these days there is something for all price points.
