There are many transient shaper and booster plug-ins that can help to bring out the attack in your audio tracks. But Voxengo says that their new Peakbuster plug-in is different. It uses a combination of multi-band transient boosting and harmonic enhancing with an automatic algorithm that boosts “in quantities that are ‘exactly right’”, Voxengo claims. According to the developer, this combination delivers natural-sounding results on full mixes and individual tracks.

Peakbuster lets you specify the number of bands from 3 to 30. Like most other transient shaper plug-ins, it also lets you dial in the desired attack and sustain/release times using the Snap Time and Body Time controls. Then, you can adjust the effect separately for the lower and higher frequency ranges.

According to Voxengo, the strength of the effect also depends on the algorithm’s analysis of the source material. This means that Peakbuster doesn’t apply a fixed amount of processing without regard to the incoming signal. Instead, it analyzes the dynamics of the source and then applies the appropriate amount of transient boosting. The developer claims that this results in a natural sound even on complex material like a full master bus.

But Peakbuster doesn’t just shape transients. Voxengo says that it also imparts a unique harmonic coloration and enhancement, which they call “beyond tube warmness”. This means that you can use the plug-in to color your sound even if you’re not boosting transients.

Price and availability

Voxengo Peakbuster is now available for $49.95 from the developer’s website. This introductory offer lasts until June 19th, after which the price will increase to $59.95. You can also get the plug-in at Plugin Boutique*.

Peakbuster requires macOS 10.11 or higher or Windows XP or higher. It’s available in VST, AU and AAX formats.
