Line 6 has announced a limited edition Variax called Onyx that comes in a new translucent-black finish over a flamed-maple veneer top and an ebony fretboard and it will be available in a limited run of 300.
Variax Limited Edition Onyx
The Line 6 Variax range has been around for a few years now, so at this year’s NAMM they have announced a ‘limited edition’ version called the Onyx, with only 300 guitars available worldwide.
Dark and Stormy
With each Onyx Variax finished in a new translucent-black finish applied over a flamed-maple veneer top on a lightweight alder body, a Macassar ebony fretboard and a matching headstock overlay. There is also a ‘Limited Edition’ insignia and a numbered neck plate denoting which one of the 300 you own.
With a set of three Yamaha Alnico V single-coil pickups that are married to the Variax’s HD modelling technology, which made these guitars famous in the first place.
Line 6 Variax modelling
If you have been living under a rock for the last few years then you should also know that the Variax modelling allows you to mimic 6 and 12 string acoustics, resonator, banjo, sitar and more. You can also access alternate tunings such as Open G, DADGAD, and Drop D, plus their own custom tunings as well.
Maybe this is not quite as exciting as their new Line 6 HX Effects unit that launched as well at this year’s show, but if you need a seriously versatile instrument, then you would be hard-pressed to find another guitar that can cover this many bases, that and the new ‘dark’ finish looks pretty cool.
RRP – USD 1399.99 and limited to 300 guitars worldwide
