DivKid, a.k.a Ben Wilson is known as the master of modular, the guru of Eurorack and the pony of patch cables. He’s the bloke behind the Modular Podcast, Modular Meets events and runs a prolific YouTube channel demonstrating hundreds and hundreds of Eurorack modules. After years of telling us about other people’s modules he’s finally come up with one himself – it’s called Mutes.

Mutes

It’s a 4-channel performance muting tool. Simple concept. 4 channels of in, 4 channels of out with mute switches in between. The idea is that it gives you the power to mute signal or CV within your rack. Phenomenally useful in live performance or simply for signal management. But there’s more to it than that. The mute switch has 3 settings. You’ve got off and on, so muted and unmuted, but you’ve also got a momentary unmute so when you hold it to the left it allows signal through as long as you hold it. The switches are controlled by vactrols which give them a soft, click-free action with a very slight decay. The inputs normalise to all outputs so you can route single channels or multiple signals to different destinations. And this works with CV and modulation as well as audio.

Beyond simply muting a signal it becomes useful as an effects send, or a way of sending momentary modulation to multiple destinations. It’s remarkably versatile and very much a playable device for creating changes in live performance.

Designed and manufactured with the help of Befaco Mutes is available now for £110 fully built or £70 as a kit. You also get a little pack of knurlies and a couple of Glow Worm cables in the box.
