The new Mooer SD30i desktop amp comes with a built-in looper function and looks like it is aimed squarely at the marketplace currently filled by Positive Grid’s Spark speaker systems.
This Mooer SD30i desktop amp might be worth a look. It is equipped with 2×4′′ FRFR speakers works in stereo and delivers 30 watts of power.
In total, the small modelling combo integrates 52 amp models, 49 effect devices, a synchronizable 80-second looper, 40 drum machine loops and a chromatic tuner.
It is also compatible with the in-house, wireless foot switch GTRS*.
Control: Controller and app
Directly on the amplifier, controls for amp model, gain, 3-band EQ, volume, chorus/Vibrato, echo/delay, instrument and audio are available on the top panel. Alternatively, users can not only remotely control the amplifier via Bluetooth 5.0 via the iAMP app, but also edit the amps and effects according to their own preferences.
New sounds and firmware updates come from the Mooer Cloud as usual. Then via USB-C, the amplifier can be also used as an audio interface.
For mobile applications, the Mooer SD30i has a 4000 mAh battery installed – which should allow 5 hours of music on the go. It can also be operated via the supplied 19V power supply. The unit weighs in at around 5kg and so is not too heavy, so it could be a useful portable amp for many.
Price and market launch: Competition for the Spark?
The Mooer SD30i not only offers a relatively similar setup to the Spark but costs about 60 euros less at €289*. Mooer currently has significantly fewer sounds in the cloud to retrieve, but there should still be a lot. Plus, there is that looper function, which could be great for building new song ideas or practising new tunes.
