Arthur Joly is one of the world’s greatest boutique synth builders. There, I said it. And I’m not taking it back! We’ve written often about his amazing custom built synths here on Gearnews. Like the Recodrum drum module, a stunning analogue percussion synth and sequencer. Or the Ecucational RecoSynth, a brilliant system for teaching and learning about modular. Or the Bass Makkina Tube, a powerhouse of a valve synth. Or the Mutuca and Mutuca FM, a pair of sumptuous boutique synthesizers that look simply wonderful. They’re hand-crafted and designed with a joyfulness and verve that you don’t see very often.

Check out Arthur’s website here.

Join our interview on Twitch at Thursday 20 January on the Musikernetzwerk channel. Any questions you want to ask Arthur about his synth builds? Let us know in the Twitch chat, we’ll ask him for you!

Gearnews on Twitch

Twitch is great way to stream broadcasts from a bustling, global creative community to your computer, smartphone or tablet. Originally populated by the gamer community, Twitch is fast turning into a place for all sorts of creative content. Many musicians, producers and DJs are discovering Twitch, too. And now the Gearnews team is joining the fray with a weekly “Gear of the Week” podcast-style show bringing you a condensed run-down of the week’s top stories in guitars, synths, studio and live gear as well as audio technology. Angus and Bob discuss their highlights of the week – and of course we want to include you and your opinions, too! Join in the discussion with us via the real-time chat. We’re looking forward to hearing from you!

Live every Tuesday at Noon CET

Our news show on Tuesday at 12 noon CET (11am UK) will give you a condensed run-through of the week’s hottest stories. To catch the stream live, head over to our channel here. Don’t be put off by the channel name: We’re currently hosted on the Musikernetzwerk channel that’s also home to streams from our German-language sister site, too.

If you’re happy to just kick back and consume, just scroll down to the bottom of this page. But if you sign up for a Twitch account, you can join in the conversation with us – we’re always happy to answer questions and hear your opinions on the gear we all love. Or get suggestions from you about what we should be covering on Gearnews. Got ideas for interviews, workshops or other topics you want to see? Let us know!

Why a live stream? Talking – rather than writing – about gear gives us more space to explore the context and give you our opinions. But it’s also an invitation to you. And putting out different viewpoints is part of what this blog is all about. Twitch is the perfect platform for a live talk show that does exactly that. Want to discuss the news with us, share your opinion on a post or just say hello? Create a free Twitch account and “follow” the Musikernetzwerk channel. That’ll keep you informed about all the latest broadcasts.

And our weekly news round-up format is only the beginning. From this week, we’re bringing you conversations with manufacturers and designers of our favourite gear, from synths and guitars to PA and content creation. We hope you enjoy our new venture and that we’ll see you soon live on our channel – and in the chat!
