Plug a guitar or microphone into the PERFECT PITCH PP1 and extract pitch, gate and trigger CV that can be sent to control your modular or converted to MIDI for other synths.

PERFECT PITCH PP1

In an unexpectedly non-cloning move, Behringer has come up with a useful module that doesn’t appear to be based on an existing module. We’ve seen plenty of envelope followers before, but I’ve not come across one that outputs MIDI. Feel free to correct me in the comments.

However, the PP1 doesn’t extract the envelope of the audio as such; it takes a gate for the length of the audio and also the pitch. So you plug in a guitar, microphone or line-level source, and you get the pitch expressed as CV and length expressed as Gate. Over MIDI you get Note On and Note Off information. Behringer says the pitch tracking is super fast.

You have a Hi-Z switch for guitar and a Low Cut function to remove rumble. The gain control can add up to 50 dB in gain to cope with all manner of sources.

Ultimately you’ll be able to sing into the PP1 and use your voice to play oscillators or control MIDI synthesizers. You could pull notes from your guitar playing to record as MIDI sequences. Or you could use it to add MIDI to a non-MIDI synth.

It’s going to have some pretty chunky cables hanging off the front, but then that’s just how it is. It also has a Dry Thru port so you can still use your voice or guitar live. It’s a potentially useful module.

Useful but.. no envelope following CV out ?
Why not add the MS-20 ESP one ?

This is pretty clearly a clone of the Sonicsmith ConVertor E1, which is better featured and likely has better tracking (testing will tell). There are older variations of this dating back to some creative patching on the Korg MS-20. UniSyn is a product in an enclosure that is similar to the ConVertor E1 with even more features.
