These new Victory Amplification V1 pedals are all based on the company’s amp range. They were designed by Adrian Thorpe of ThorpyFX in conjunction with Martin Kidd, the man that designed the original amps that these pedals are all based on.

The brief was to make a pedal for each of the Victory amps, one that would encapsulate their tone and offer it in a compact pedalboard-friendly form factor. These Victory V1 pedals are based on the Duchess, Jack, Kraken, Sheriff and Copper guitar amps. Each has a distinct tone and ThorpyFX has done a great job of capturing that character.

The Design

Adrian Thorpe is the man behind the designs and each pedal comes with Volume and Gain controls, plus Bass, Middle and Treble. Martin Kidd is the designer of the original Victory amps and he collaborated with Adrian on these pedal designs.

“The idea of a collaboration was something that made a good deal of sense, as we (Victory) were to an extent, venturing into the unknown… At Victory, we have the knowhow, of course; however, being able to make use of Adrian’s (Thorpy’s) experience and the various subtleties of his design ethic, enabled us to better appeal to the player who likes a clean amp platform; getting their various sounds from pedals.” – Martin Kidd, Chief Designer at Victory

The Pedals

  • The Duchess offers a vintage US tone, perfect for a  clean boost or more crunchy gain tones.
  • The Copper is based on a classic British rock tone and straddles that ’60s blues /’70s rock amp tone.
  • The Jack was based on the V30 Jack which was designed in collaboration with Guthrie Govan and has what is described as “gain, barky sounds and over the top gain”
  • The Sheriff goes between low gain low vintage amp channel sounds and when pushed gives you that ’80s hard rock tone.
  • The Kraken is a US high-gain voice, perfect for heavy riffs with a tight bottom end, though if you back off the gain it morphs into a more British-voiced affair.

Made in the UK

All the pedals use true-bypass switching and are made in the UK. I’m expecting a high-quality build throughout and no compromise in terms of tone. Sure, the controls are simplified. But we have two great designers behind this range, both with great reputations for quality and tone.

MSRP – Each Victory V1 pedal costs GBP 199 / USD 249 / EUR 239
