Unplug.red Sunburnt: Drawable reverb off the beaten path

Developer Unplug.red – the folks behind the mind-bending Prisma distortion and other unique plugins – has released Sunburnt. This free reverb plugin starts out like any other reverb with Dry, Wet, Density, and Length controls. However, Sunburnt has a whole bag of tricks up its sleeve.

More Information

In addition to a built-in vibrato section for modulating the reverb tail, Sunburnt features a canvas on which you can draw custom curves for a number of parameters. Volume, pan, and a shimmer effect are all drawable, as are the built-in low-pass and high-pass filters. This allows you to craft unique effects that sound unlike anything you’d expect from a reverb. It even works as a multi-tap delay. Or, as the developer puts it, “you could have a reverb with a tail that goes wub wub wub and the end of the tail is pitched up an octave”. Interesting!

Sunburnt is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux in VST3, AU, and CLAP formats. If you want to support the developer (and we suggest that you do if you like it!), there’s also a paid version on their Patreon site that removes the banner at the bottom.

Tilr Time1 and Gate1: Free rhythmic modulation plugins

If you like rhythmic modulations and glitchy time-bending effects, this pair of free VST3 plugins for Windows should be right up your alley.

More Information

The developer describes Time1 as an “open source delay modulator” that you can use to create “stutter effects, tape stop, glitch, scratch, reverse, pitch shift and more”. The multi-segment editor allows you to draw in up to 12 patterns or curves, which can then be triggered using MIDI notes. We don’t need to tell you that this opens up a wealth of creative possibilities.

Gate1, on the other hand, is a drawable envelope generator that allows you to create custom volume curves. Here, too, you can trigger up to 12 different patterns using MIDI notes. The plugin can sync to the tempo of your DAW, or you can use an arbitrary LFO rate.

Time1 and Gate1 are both VST3 plugins for Windows.

Reflex Acoustics AutomaticLite: Automatic Compressor

This automatic compressor by Reflex Acoustics promises to deliver quick results. While you can adjust the ratio, attack, and release, AutomaticLite doesn’t have threshold or make-up gain controls, as these are automatic. The compression knob determines how far the threshold rides below the peaks in the signal.

More Information

The developer says that AutomaticLite is easy to calibrate to any audio material and „delivers a constant dynamic signature“ even when the overall volume of the source material changes. It also includes an automatic gate, as well as a mix knob for parallel processing.

AutomaticLite is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats.
