Manson Guitar Works has announced the new revamped Manson Meta Series MBM-2 Matt Bellamy model. Following on from the MBM-1 which we reviewed when it came out originally. Just now it comes with more pickup options, plus a new enhanced buy shape and is available for the first time in a left-handed version.
Manson Meta Series MBM-2
This new Manson Meta Series MBM-2 now comes with a refined body shape that is closer to Matt Bellamy’s original guitars. But that is not all, as now you have a new Manson-designed custom neck P-90 pickup option. Or if you want, you can now have a factory-fitted USA Sustainiac Sustainer instead. And as I mentioned in the intro, there is now a left-handed option, that was previously not available in the Meta Series range.

Kill Button
Each guitar has a basswood body and maple neck with a satin finish. The guitars also come loaded with a Manson designed bridge humbucker and a kill button, plus a three-way pickup switch and master knobs for volume and tone.
Sustainiac loaded
This gives guitarists some very tasty choices to choose from, and I would imagine will be very popular. The original Meta Series MBM-1 was a great all-around instrument fitted with dual humbuckers and it impressed me when I reviewed a Starlight Silver one back in 2020. Produced under licence with Cort, these MBM-2s offer a lot of guitar for the money.

Meta-Blue
Added to the existing Matt Black and Starlight Silver finishes, is the new Meta-Blue gloss finish, which is available on the Suatainiac loaded model. I think this expansion of the Meta Series will please fans of the brand, Matt Bellamy and Muse. However, don’t be put off if you are not a Muse fan, as I found the Manson MBM-1 to be a great modern guitar and excellent value for money.

More Options
Having more options for this new MBM-2 can only be a good thing, and I look forward to hearing some reviews from new owners, once they get their hands on them. You can still pick up the original MBM-1 from Thomann, in Matt Black * and Starlight Silver *. So if you want dual humbuckers then there are some still available. I can see the new P90 and Sustainiac loaded MBM-2 models being popular, especially as there is now a left-handed version at last.
