Joyo’s war on TC and other brands at the cheaper end of the pedal market continues unabated! The company has just announced its new O.M.B pedal, a versatile looper aimed at the aspiring one-person bands among you – or those looking to jam or find a new way to work out new song ideas.
Following on from the recent release of its Tauren Overdrive and UZI Distortion pedals, Joyo has now added the new O.M.B. to its R Series of effects pedals. And this one is functionally far beyond a simple drive pedal.
The new Joyo O.M.B pedal has a LOOPER cycle recording mode, an independent drum machine mode and LOOPER +drum mode. All the basics you need to create a song are there, as you can layer and loop to combine it all with drums.
Loops and Beats
The LOOPER mode has a handy auto-align function and a Count-In function. The O.M.B has up to 40 minutes of cycle recording time and you can overdub as many times as you like with no limits as to how many layers you can use. In drum machine mode, you can choose between 7 different genres of drum patterns (Metal, Blues, Rock, Pop, Latin, Jazz, Funk) and each has 7 drumbeats. Each pattern also has drum fills and outro fills to choose from. The speed of drum patterns can be set using the Tap Tempo button.
The O.M.B has the same ambience LED light on the front and rear sides as the other pedals in the R Series, so it is easy to see if the pedal is engaged when using it live on a darkened stage.
This new pedal in the Joyo R Series line-up is due out in January 2019. At this price, I suppose it will be in direct competition with pedals from TC Electronic’s Ditto range and could well be one to keep an ear out for, as it is almost half the price of some of the pedals in in TC’s offering.
