JHS Pedals has just released its latest effect, the Overdrive Preamp. The pedal is inspired by a DOD 250 unit “that didn’t exist”, but now you can own it.

Based on a DOD Overdrive Preamp 250 that never existed, this new Overdrive Preamp from JHS Pedals looks a bit like the grey and yellow incarnations that did get released, but has a different voicing. Josh Scott first discovered the mystery pedal, which was built in a metal closure and looked similar to an Electro-Harmonix pedal, albeit with a DOD logo, back in 2019.

Mystery DOD

The mysterious pedal in question had “DOD Electronics Company” on the backplate, the home address of company founder, David Oreste Di Francesco, along with the number 75. Josh then finally got around to speaking with Di Francesco, and was told he had found the 75th DOD pedal ever made, and one of the first 10 DOD Overdrive Preamp 250s ever sold. The pedal itself was a relatively standard DOD 250 circuit, but contained components that were salvaged from old radios and electronics.

Clipping

Josh also studied a second early big-box unit, which had a completely different clipping arrangement with more gain, and this is where this new JHS pedal stems from. This JHS incarnation has two basic controls labelled Level and Gain, plus a slider with that allows users to access these two different clipping stages that appeared on these early units. If you like those DOD 250 tones, then this hybrid JHS incarnation might be for you. But it is certainly very geeky.

RRP – USD 179

With a Limited Run Big Box

Josh has also built 250 limited edition pedals, and in the same big box format as the original pedal that he stumbled upon, so you can be a pedal geek as well. These are being released via Reverb, and may already have sold out. Though, you could still get lucky and pick one up.

Two years ago when BLM supporters were rioting, burning buildings and attacking (and in some cases, killing) police, this website posted articles in fervent support of it all which were stuff all to do with musical equipment. Anyone who didn’t fall in line was attacked by the writers in the comments. Yes, including you Jef. I watched you post spiteful comments at people who challenged it. You accused me of being a racist simply for asking what it had to do with musical equipment, and deleted my comments.
This week, just one article which touches on the tragedy of Ukraine, in relation to a fundraising pedal, and comments are closed. No 24 hours of silence in solidarity this time eh, Jef?
Cowards and frauds. I won’t be back.
