The artist and producer BT was one of the pioneers of stutter editing when the technique first became popular. Manual stutter editing can be a tedious and extremely time-consuming process, sometimes with an uncertain outcome. Based on BT’s ideas, iZotope Stutter Edit makes it easy to beef up your productions with creative stutter effects. Effects can be triggered via a MIDI keyboard or controller and automated in the DAW.

Stutter Edit 2 is the new and improved version of the plug-in with many new features. The plug-in slices audio into “razor-thin” fragments to create typical stutter effects, which can be pitched, reversed, modulated and combined with other effects like reverb, distortion or filters. You can create your own macros (“gestures”) and assign them to hotkeys on your MIDI keyboard, for triggering the effect in real-time. Stutter Edit 2 features a new auto mode, which lets you audition gestures quickly. The curve editor is a neat way to draw modulation for any parameter. There’s also a new visualizer, which gives you an idea of what a gesture does before you trigger it.

The plug-in contains a complete effects chain, which you can rearrange in any order. Stutter Edit 2 comes with a new chorus, new comb filter and a new reverb. It also offers distortion, phaser/flanger, tapestop, and various filters.

All of this is designed to make adding stutter effects to your production as easy as loading up a preset, hitting a few keys on your keyboard and experimenting with the results. Stutter Edit 2 comes with a large collection of presets and gestures, which you can use as a starting point for your own creations.

iZotope Creative Suite 2
