Developer Toontrack launched EZdrummer 3, a major update to its popular drum software for Windows and Mac. New features are aplenty to justify the wait from version 2, released in 2014 (with incremental updates in-between). There’s no introductory pricing, but owners of EZdrummer 2 can still upgrade for EUR 89. A new purchase costs approximately EUR 160. Here’s the rest of the news…
At heart, EZdrummer 3 is what it always was: a comprehensive set of virtual drums that’s fairly easy-to-use. Easier than ever, in fact, thanks to the Bandmate feature which comes up with new beats on the spot. It’s kind of crazy that AI drummers playing along to our ideas are something we’re pretty much accustomed to at this point. But yeah, it is what is.
Also new is the convenient Tap2Find functionality where you tap out the gist of a beat idea and EZdrummer 3 finds the closest matches from its vast MIDI groove library. You can start from that and complete the arrangement using the new Song Creator.
It wouldn’t be a major update without some fancy new content. EZdrummer 3 is no slouch in this regard with 7 new drum kits recorded by Grammy-winning producer Michael Ilbert at Berlin’s Hansa Studios. The MIDI groves and fills library is also new and expanded.
All things considered, version 3 brings the software closer to the “Drum DAW” concept of Toontrack’s flagship drum product – Superior Drummer. The new fully scalable and resizable user interface is a modern necessity and the mixer section is thoroughly overhauled. There are new performance humanizing features, too, such as automated articulations and variations.
