Developer ToonTrack is preparing to release EZdrummer 3, the first major update to the popular drum sampler since DVDs were a thing. As part of the promotion, it’s offering discounted upgrades to EZdrummer users and the opportunity to buy EZdrummer 2 and get the upgrade to version 3 for free.
ToonTrack EZdrummer 3 upgrade deals
If you buy EZdrummer 2 before May 3, you will get the upgrade on release day. This means that you can get started with EZdrummer 2 and move up to EZdrummer 3 on release day while keeping all EZdrummer 2 content you own. You can buy EZdrummer 2 from ToonTrack and its dealers, such as Thomann:
You can also pre-order an upgrade to version 3 (which will be available from May 3) and save EUR 17 from the regular price (EUR 89). The offer is from ToonTrack.
EZdrummer 3 is a major update which brings EZdrummer closer to the “Drum DAW” concept that ToonTrack developed with its flagship Superior Drummer software. The new fully scalable and resizable user interface is home to a significantly expanded MIDI groove library and deeper sequencing options, including the new Grid Editor. The mixer is also overhauled and there are new performance humanizing features, such as automated articulations and variations. Where Superior Drummer is a consummate production tool, ToonTrack clearly intends to keep EZdrummer primarily a songwriter’s helper.
EZdrummer 3 can also throw custom AI-generated grooves at you owing to the Bandmate feature. The core library includes 7 drum kits and 3 rooms captured at Hansa Studios in Berlin by producer Michael Ilbert. There’s lots more to explore but you’re really better off heading to the ToonTrack website and checking out the presentation yourself.
All in all, EZdrummer 3 looks promising but I’m still not sure what took ToonTrack their sweet time. EZdrummer 2 was released in 2014! All that good stuff could have been dished out eons ago. Better late than never, I guess.
