The new Cort GB74JJ AB may not have the most memorable of names, but its striking Aqua Blue finish looks deep and lustrous, suiting the swamp ash body. Will this new model make you want to get down low and funky or play the blues?

Swamp Ash

The Cort GB74JJ has a swamp ash body and pairs it with a Canadian hard maple neck. This classic combination for bolt on neck basses is tried and trusted by many manufacturers. Cort has also put a nice ergonomic contoured neck joint on the bass, so it should be easy to play in the upper registers.

The striking Aqua Blue finish allows the heavy grain of the swamp ash to show through and really does make for a stunning look. The last time I saw a guitar in this finish look so good was on my friend’s USA Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster and that was an expensive guitar indeed. This deep blue finish should get many bass players’ wallets twitching.

Vintage voice

The bass comes loaded with a pair of Voiced Tone J-style pickups, billed by Cort as offering clarity, transparency and vintage warmth by Cort. Ideally, they will complement the swamp ash and maple combination used in the GB74JJ. The pickups are controlled by a 2-band EQ with a Passive-Active Push-Pull pot.

Hardware-wise, you get a solid steel Omega bridge to hold down the tone – and this does look pretty substantial. I like that they have made a concerted effort to put decent hardware on this bass, so it should survive the rigours of everyday use and hopefully touring as well. A set of Hipshot Ultralite tuners is also included, and they should be up to the job of keeping you in tune.

Cort seems to be offering a lot of bass here – for not a lot of money. Check out the Cort GB74JJ AB Bass product page for more details.
