At ISE 2017 this week, beyerdynamic are set to debut their next generation professional wireless microphone system. The TG 1000 already offers several key features and an impressive specification. But the addition of Dante seems to have taken a while. However, finally it’s here, demonstrating the growing demand for AoIP networking in the world of live sound.

Even if the TG 1000 wireless system isn’t a purchase you might be considering in the near future, this is yet another announcement of AoIP adoption. Interestingly, beyerdynamic have taken a while to add this feature, and more so that they went with Dante. As far as I’m aware, all major wireless microphone brands now offer RJ45 connectivity, via the Dante protocol. Currently, this feature is only available in most professional product lines. However, hopefully it’s only a matter of time, as tech always gets cheaper to produce, before we will see it in entry level products too.

This is another story for Audinate, who launched and support the Dante protocol, as much as it is for beyerdynamic. Dante is continuing to grow in popularity in live sound, and this simply shows even more support for the platform. When it comes to racks of wireless receivers, ethernet connectivity makes a lot of sense compared to expensive copper cabling which can also be prone to noise and other issues.

It will be interesting to see if beyerdynamic have added any party tricks with the TG 1000. For example, the Yamaha CL and QL series of consoles can even monitor RF and battery levels of Dante-enabled Shure receivers. I’m not sure if this is the case here unfortunately, which might be reflected in the pricing perhaps? I’m also slightly disappointed that there only appears to be a single RJ45 connector on the rear of these receivers. This means daisy chaining these units in a rack isn’t possible. Full lengths of Cat5 cable will be required for each unit along with a network switch.

More Information

The recommended retail price for the TG 1000 dual receiver is 3000 EUR, 800 EUR for the TG 1000 handheld transmitter and 850 EUR for the TG 1000 beltpack transmitter. The TG 1000 wireless system with Dante will be available from May 2017. Visit the beyerdynamic TG 1000 webpage for more information.
