The Walrus Audio Fable Granular Soundscape Generator uses 5 granular delay programs centred around sample and chop algorithms. The effect itself is powered by two DSP chips and the signal is run through two separate effects in series.

Glitch

These are then independently controlled by the Feedback and Regen controls on the pedal. It also allows users to combine delay programs in series with granular sampling algorithms. Then you can manipulate sample lengths, their position and the buffer size of grains.

If all of this sounds a little complex, then take a glance at the Programs below to get a basic overall idea of what is on offer.

Delay Programs

  • Program 1: Reverse Delay into Reverse Granular
  • Program 2: Forward Delay into Octave Up Granular
  • Program 3: Analog Delay into Octave Down Granular
  • Program 4: Multi-Tap Granular into Multi-Tap Granular (Grain-Verb)
  • Program 5: Forward Delay into Randomized Pitch Granular

Grains

These grains can also be played at double or half-speed, reversed or from multiple positions to achieve varying effects. If you like glitchy delays, then I would hazard a guess that this could be for you. Tap Tempo is available and has its own dedicated footswitch. This means users can synchronise the glitchiness into some semblance of order and keep in time with your band, etc

Time Warp

Plus, the Fable includes a host of momentary features. These can be used to adjust both the modulation speed and a time-warping effect, which can shift the clock rate up or down, to give a rising or sinking effect.

Other than the usual chaos and organic nature of this new latest Walrus Audio effect, the rest of it is pretty standard. It has top-mounted input and output jacks, plus a normal 9-volt DC, centre negative, 300mA minimum power supply requirement. Therefore, it should play nicely on most pedalboards.
