Announced via social media, this new partnership between Laney Amplification and Justin Hawkins means that The Darkness frontman is now playing a special JH3000 amp head on their current live tour. We know he has used a lot of different amps in the past, including Marshall and Mesa heads. He tends to plug straight in to an amp, with no pedals, which means his Gibson Les Paul Custom and a guitar cable is all he uses for tone.

Three Channels of Tubes

The Laney JH3000 has 120 watts of power, and the all-tube amp uses four ECC83 tubes and a pair of 6L6 tubes, a three-channel pre-amp with clean, rhythm, and lead channels ,and a foot-switchable pre-boost section. All of the channels feature a three-band push-pull EQ, and it has a variable level FX loop, a digital reverb effect and a Dynamics control available as well.

Currently, there are no plans for a production model, so the only person who has access to it is Justin. However, if all goes well, maybe we will see a production model at some point in the future? The Darkness are currently touring the UK, so you can hear the JH3000 in action if you attend any of their gigs!

Who was the last person before Justin who had a device made especially for them? Not counting people who just made their own DIY kit, the last one was probably Stephen Hawking…….
