This is the first-ever studio monitor from Antelope, a manufacturer known for its audio interfaces, converters, and digital clocking technology. With this in mind, the design of the new Atlas i8 makes use of digital features in these areas. So, let’s find out how.

Antelope is certainly starting boldly with the design of the Atlas i8. The 3-way design uses dual 8-inch woofers positioned directly behind one another in an isobar configuration.

With this design, they were able to keep the overall size of the monitor casing relatively compact, while still being able to deliver the desired frequency response and performance.

Meanwhile, the mids and highs are projected via a coaxial driver, which was chosen to reduce the risk of filter combing effects. What’s more, you can use the Atlas i8 in both vertical and horizontal configurations as a result.

Power comes from the custom-designed low-distortion Class D amplifier which distributes 200 watts to the 8-inch woofers and 100 watts to the mids and tweeters. All in all, the Atlas i8 can produce a maximum of SPL of 117 dB.

The rear panel is sure to pique the interest of any speaker geek. To make manual acoustic adjustments, you have a colour display that gives you access to a 4-band EQ.

In addition, you can also manage functions such as dim, mute, volume control, and delay offset, to precisely manage the integrity of the stereo imaging. These functions can also be controlled via software, with USB connectivity on the rear panel.

Very strange how on a speaker of this class and price there is no tech spec mentioning of frequency response, not even on Antelope’s own website

Did you try reading the article? It reads:

The Atlas i8 also offers digital AES/EBU connectivity, with its renowned Antelope conversion stage. Here, you get 25 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response, and up to 192 kHz sample rate.

Do you know what I am talking about?

Yes, I read: “Here, you get 25 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response, and up to 192 kHz sample rate.” – which seems to refer to the analog/digital conversion.

With a stated frequency range of 35 – 20 000 Hz the above cannot be the speakers’ frequency response. That is always narrower than the range, and is accompaigned by a +/- db tollerance.
        How do you explained that?

But then again, the product page itself reads:

    Frequency range: 35 – 20 000 Hz
