AUTO/PILOT (also known as “Autopilot”), deadmau5’s new DJ software, is slowly heading toward the finish line. A public beta of the platform is available right now, bringing together mixing, live arrangements, sampling, native effects, MIDI, and more, with a genuinely deep amount of room for customization. Is this about to become the new power tool for DJ mixing and live performance?

AUTO/PILOT: deadmau5’s New DJ Platform
With OSC/PILOT, producer and DJ deadmau5 already laid out years ago exactly how he thinks about live performance tools. Now his newest project, AUTO/PILOT, is slowly making its way toward launch.
So what actually is AUTO/PILOT? At its core, it’s software built for DJ mixing and live performance of electronic music, and unlike a lot of existing tools out there, it wants to be a lot more comprehensive.
Creative mixing, live arrangements, sampling, MIDI and OSC controller integration, native effects, and more all get pulled together into one package, with a genuinely deep amount of room for customization. You can basically reshape the interface to fit however you actually work.
Mixing decks and sequencing collide inside AUTO/PILOT into a single package, and automation gets full support too. It’s a bit like a dedicated DAW built specifically for DJs and live performers. You can even arrange and edit sets directly on a timeline.
The software also promises support for external plugins, letting you remix and manipulate tracks in real time, for instance. deadmau5 is once again teaming up with his “buddy” Steve Duda here, the developer behind Serum, who’s contributing algorithms for tempo and beat grid detection. Track analysis is supposed to happen practically instantly.
MIDI and OSC (Open Sound Control) data play a major role in AUTO/PILOT too, with deep integration and extensive routing options built in. Given deadmau5’s own shows, he clearly knows exactly how important syncing music, lighting, and visuals together has become these days.
Available Now in Public Beta
All of this sounds genuinely exciting, and now you can actually try AUTO/PILOT out for yourself. The public beta is live as of right now.
That said, you’ll need to buy the software outright, there’s no free trial available yet. The price is currently discounted, running you $50.
Windows and macOS are both supported, though exact system specs aren’t available yet. There’s also no word yet on when the software will officially launch.
