Noise Engineering has announced Quantus Ampla. As a compact, but very versatile four-channel VCA module, Quantus Ampla has got a whole bunch of tricks up its sleeve.

After its recent venture into the world of plug-ins, Noise Engineering is back with a new Eurorack module. Quantus Ampla is a quad VCA, and as such, it’s already a module with many uses. But Noise Engineering has come up with some very good ideas to make the module even more versatile.

Each of the four channels has a switch that allows you to choose from normal VCA operation (Amplify) or attenuation. In Attenuate mode, the VCAs respond to positive control voltages by closing instead of opening. With DC-coupled inputs and outputs, Quantus Ampla can be used to process audio or CV signals.

The CV inputs are circularly normalled, which allows for many creative uses such as ducking effects over multiple voices, volume fades and transitions with minimal patching. The outputs also mix down, so you can use the module as a mixer, too. According to Noise Engineering, any combination is possible: two 2-channel mixers, one 3-channel mixer plus VCA or one 4-channel mixer.

There’s a lot you can do with Quantus Ampla. The combination of Amplify and Attenuate modes, normalled CV inputs and mixing capabilities makes it a very versatile module. With its compact dimensions, Quantus Ampla looks like a great way to maximize your return on just 6 HP of Eurorack real estate.

The module uses 65 mA @ +12 V and 60 mA @ -12 V.
