HDX with Hybrid Engine

Introduced in 2020 for the Pro Tools | Carbon interface, the Hybrid Engine tech makes the jump to HDX Systems. Hybrid Engine is AVID’s streamlined Native + DSP approach for Pro Tools. It lets you switch between computer and DSP-calculated (low latency) processing on a track-by-track basis, maxing out at 2048 voices in Pro Tools | Ultimate (at all sample rates and starting with a single HDX card). Without the Hybrid Engine, HDX is limited to a maximum of 256 voices per card.

Support for M1 Macs

The 2021.6 release brings M1 compatibility for Pro Tools | First, Pro Tools, and Pro Tools | Ultimate, and Pro Tools | Carbon systems on the latest Apple computers.

Bigger sessions with more I/O, tracks, and voices

Pro Tools and Pro Tools | Ultimate now support double the I/O – 64 channels, up from 32. Pro Tools now supports a maximum of 256 mono or stereo audio tracks at all sample rates—up from 128 at 48 kHz. Likewise, Pro Tools | Ultimate now supports a maximum of 2,048 voices and audio tracks at all sample rates—5x more than previous versions. This means you can track bigger sessions and work with a lot more outboard gear using any Core Audio or ASIO interface.

Customized Dark and Classic UI themes

You can now change the brightness and saturation of almost every corner of the user interface. You can also save your favorite settings as presets and switch between them at any time, as well as toggle between the Dark and Classic UI themes dynamically without restarting Pro Tools.

QuickTime and file support improvements (Pro Tools | Ultimate only)

Pro Tools 2021.6 adds important functionality to the Bounce Mix window, such as same-as-source video export, AAC audio export up to 7.1, and the ability to import, play, and export H.265/HEVC video in Pro Tools | Ultimate.

Automatic Delay Compensation for side-chained tracks

Pro Tools will apply the correct amount of delay compensation when side-chaining tracks to keep the timing in perfect sync. Previously, this feature was only available for Pro Tools | HDX.
