The new Mr Black Mini Tremolo pedal offers vintage sounds for a very reasonable price – and it won’t take up lots of space on your pedalboard.
Mr Black Mini Tremolo
The latest in the Mr Black’s Mini Series is the Mini Tremolo, is described as a ‘pulsing throb of vintage bias-modulating tremolo’. The Mini Tremolo looks just like the other mini pedals: Mini Vintage Chorus, Mini Echo Delay, Mini Reverb and Mini Octaves.
This latest pedal is voiced to deliver harmonic-vibrato that will give you textures reminiscent of “most rare and sought-after amplifiers” of yesteryear, according to Mr Black himself. He builds all the pedals by hand in Portland, Oregon, USA. I own a few, and the build quality is always excellent and they do sound really, really good. Currently, my personal favourite is the TunnelWorm flanger.
You get three control knobs. Intensity governs the tremolo effect’s depth and strength while Harmonics regulates the harmonic-vibrato mix. Speed sets the speed and rate of the tremolo effect.
The pedal has both classic vintage and harmonic-style tremolos combined, so expect classic Fender Blackface-type tones from this diminutive pedal.
It has a single footswitch, which is true-bypass and runs in mono. If the other pedals in this range are anything to go by, it will do exactly what it says it will and give you all the control you need. I love a good tremolo, so this one will certainly be on my radar.
Currently, I am using the Lovepedal babyface TREMolo, also a mini pedal but long discontinued, and an old full-sized red enclosure T-Rex Tremster. The latter has since been re-released as theT-Rex Danish Collection Tremster (affiliate link). But I could be tempted with another mini tremolo effect for my board, especially a vintage-voiced one like this.
You can pre-order one now and there is currently a sale on, so you can save USD 20. The Mr Black Mini Tremolo pedals will ship from 1st October.
