Line 6 has announced its new Powercab 112 and 112 Plus powered speaker cabinets for use with its modelling system, and should match up perfectly with the Line 6 Helix range.
Powercab 112 & Powercab 112 Plus
The two Powercabs offer more than just loudness for your gig. The 1 × 12″ speaker has apparently been designed specifically for this purpose. The trick with this cabinet is that that it can emulate six other speakers, so you can emulate different characters and apply them to your modelled rigs.
With 250 watts of power through an 8-Ohm ohm speaker and an HF tweeter, these new powered cabinets should be able to handle small to medium-sized venues with relative ease.
The Plus version of the Powercab includes a handy 2 “LCD screen, 128 user presets, MIDI In/Out, AES/EBU and L6 Link In / Out, a second input and a USB audio interface. Unfortunately, this only has 16 bits, supporting 44.1 and 48 kHz sample rates. It is also compatible with iOS, so you can tweak and control it from your Apple iPhone for example.
I myself own a Line 6 Helix LT and so this could be a great solution for gigging, as it would give me flexibility and enough power to cut through in a band scenario. I think this product makes perfect sense and so I can see the market for these being pretty big, especially with cover bands and players that gig on a regular basis and need to cover a lot of bases.
RRP – Powercab 112 USD 599 and Powercab 112 Plus USD 799 are available from May
