This week on Guitar Gear Gems we check out the latest Gibson teasers for two new Epiphone and Gibson Dave Mustaine models. These follow on from the recent announcement of an Explorer for the Megadeth frontman. It could be a very heavy release schedule for Mustaine’s signature guitars in the not-too-distant future.

More Mustaine signature guitars?

The Instagram account of Cesar Gueikian is used for teasing new Gibson and Explorer models nearly every month. This week he was showing off the new Mesa Boogie Badlander 25-watt amps and just happened to be using an Epiphone with a Dave Mustaine logo on the rear of the headstock.

Flying Explorer?

Which has led many of his followers to deduce we are due an Epiphone Explorer signature model for Dave Mustaine very soon. As the post states “The new Badlander Amp from @mesaengineeringwill blow you away and so will this Epi-c guitar”.

Though I guess it could also be a Flying V. I say this as Mustaine’s Gibson shares the Explorer-style headstock as well.

Mustaine Les Paul?

If that Instagram “leak” wasn’t enough, then this post by Mustaine’s guitar tech Bryan Jones should help cement the rumour mill. Look it’s a Gibson Les Paul with Dave Mustaine’s signature fret markers and 24 frets.

Will it also have a 25.5″ scale length?

Subtle?

Gibson’s Mark Agnesi then adds some popcorn in his comments and lets the rumours fly…

The Gibson marketing machine is in full effect this month and if you are a fan of Megadeth and Dave Mustaine, then chances are you will have some new guitars to look forward to seeing very soon.

Only last week on Guitar Gear Gems did we have Dave Mustaine’s Instagram post teasing new Explorer signature models and a mystery USA-made Kramer.

It looks like Instagram is fast turning into the place to see upcoming Gibson and Epiphone models being shown off before any official releases.

More Mustaine

These Gibson Dave Mustaine Custom Shop Limited Edition Flying V models are the most recent Dave Mustaine design to get an official release. Though at this rate we could see a lot more Mustaine signature guitars in 2022 and 2023, so prepare for an onslaught of metal-orientated releases from the Gibson brands.

Seeing Mustaine playing an Explorer will seem strange enough, but a Les Paul? That’s plain wrong 🙂

I think it will make little difference, as all have similar construction, plus the same pickups and amps. It will just be an exercise in marketing new shapes to Megadeth fans.
