Focusrite shipping new Red / RedNet interfaces and R1 Remote Control

British audio brand Focusrite Pro started shipping four new products. What is there to gawk at? Plenty! We are talking three audio interfaces: Red 8Line, RedNet A16R MkII, and RedNet D16R MkII. And the fourth new product, of course, is the RedNet R1 Remote Control. Here’s more about each box of modern audio wonder:

Red 8Line

Fancy 58 inputs and 64 outputs? This is exactly what this interface with Pro Tools HD and Dante connectivity offers. There are also ADAT and S / PDIF inputs and outputs for a complete digital connectivity suite. On the analog side, we have eight inputs and ten outputs on the analog side. In addition, you will find a pair of Red Evolution microphone preamps sporting up to 63 dB of gain. The converters work at up to 192 kHz/24-bit resolution. The dynamic range for the A/D conversion is a healthy 119 dB, while the D/A conversion reaches a healthier 121 dB.

Red 8Line is compatible with Mac and PC computers and also has a Thunderbolt 3 port. The front panel monitor control lets you listen in mono, stereo, and multi-channel (up to Dolby Atmos 7.1.2) summing variants. You will also find two headphone outputs on the front. On the added value side, a comprehensive software bundle featuring products from Brainworx and Focusrite Digital is also included. What’s the price, you ask? That would be EUR 2630.

RedNet A16R MkII and RedNet D16R MkII

These are two 16 × 16 interfaces in 1U rack format, both designed for use within Dante Audio-over-IP networks. The RA16R MkII is equipped with traditional analog I/O and its converters work at up to 24 Bit / 192 kHz resolution. The D16R MkII, on the other hand, is a bi-directional AES3 interface.

Depending on the model, the inputs and outputs look different. Of course, both have the necessary Dante connections, as well as word clock I/O. The RedNet D16R MkII also offers S / PDIF connections on RCA jacks. Otherwise, both interfaces use DB25 to pipe audio in and out, but with different configurations depending on the model. You will also find XLR In and Out, serving as DARS inputs or AES3 inputs / outputs. Good bit of flexibility here!

The price for the RedNet A16R MkII will be EUR 3640, but if you can do without analog I/O, feel free to pay EUR 2020 for the RedNet D16R MkII.

RedNet R1

Focusrite Pro RedNet R1

This desktop remote control unit is purposefully designed for the Red series. You can use it to mix and route the inputs of 32 audio sources to as many as 12 monitor outputs. It doesn’t matter whether the signals are in mono, stereo or surround (up to Dolby Atmos 7.1.2).

By connecting to the Red interface series, the RedNet R1 taps into the audio in Pro Tools HD and other DAWs, with all digital and analog inputs and outputs of the interfaces still available. Dante, ADAT, S / PDIF – you can switch between them, or sum audio to them. You also get controls for level, reference level, dim, mute and solo. The A / B button lets you switch between four custom monitoring presets. You also get talkback functions with the built-in microphone and footswitch (also for Dante). A headphone output is present as well. Two LCD displays show metering and other important information. Routing configurations, however, are handled from the RedNet Control Software.

The RedNet R1 costs EUR 829.
