As a maker of audio interfaces, Focusrite hardly needs an introduction. No matter what your budget or task is, the English company has you covered – even if its software and hardware isn’t as all-encompassing and slick as those of top dogs like UA and Antelope.

Now, Focusrite has two brand-new additions to its Red line of audio interfaces. With their feature sets and extensive connectivity, the Red 16Line and RedNet X2P are unmistakably geared towards pro audio heads. Here’s more about each:

Red 16Line

Contained in a 1U rack format, this beast is a 64-in/64-out, Pro Tools HD-compliant audio interface with Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. Focusrite spec’d it up with low latency converters, its homespun Red Evolution mic preamps, and a hefty 121dB maximum dynamic range. Connectivity is accomplished via DigiLink, Thunderbolt, and Ethernet for expansion via dual-port Dante card.

The Red 16Line presents the opportunity to switch from Pro Tools to other DAWs with a simple change in the remote control software, or the interface’s front panel – adorned with no less than three separate displays.

The Red Evolution mic preamps are digitallyncontrolled and offer up to 63dB of gain, in addition to stereo linking, individual phantom power, high-pass filter, phase reverse, and Focusrite’s Air mode – which imparts the sonic signature of a classic transformer preamp.

RedNet X2P

Need a compact Dante-connected audio interface? Say no more – the rather peculiar RedNet X2P is a 2-in, 2-out desktop module equipped with a pair of Red Evolution mic preamps, a stereo line out, and a stereo headphone amp. A single Ethernet cable can supply power, audio, and remote control functionality when used with a power-over-Ethernet switch or injector, though you can use an AC adapter as well. The interface provides local input mix control, control lockout of mic pre & output settings, too. With its compact size and Ethernet connectivity, the RedNet X2P is an intriguing proposition for studios where audio networking is the norm.

Price and availability

Focusrite will be selling the Red 16Line for 2,999.99 USD | 2,599.99 EUR | 2869.99 GBP. Likewise, the RedNet X2P will be sold for 899.99 USD | 779.99 EUR | 879.99 GBP.
