A new Limited Edition made in Japan Fender Mahogany Offset Telecaster has finally hit European dealers. It is very brown, but the specifications are great!
Fender Mahogany Offset Telecaster
First, the most important aspect of this guitar has to be that both the body and neck with its U-profile are made entirely of mahogany, only the fingerboard with 10 “radius is made from rosewood. The only downside for me personally with the Mahogany Offset Telecaster is that it is very brown and so not that visually exciting, however, if you are a fan of guitars like the similar looking, all brown George Harrison Rosewood Telecaster then you may love it.
There are no weights listed yet, but I am really hoping that these aren’t too heavy, as mahogany can be the making of a ‘boat anchor’ when used with guitars if the wrong woods are chosen. Saying that I have a Fender Jazzmaster with a mahogany body from a limited run a few years back and it is really lightweight.
For pickups, Fender decided on a mix of Tele Singlesoil on the bridge and P90 on the neck. The hardware is all chrome and the pickguard and P90 cover are black, so it is all rather subdued lookswise.
This is a special run for Europe and should be in store with dealers within the next few weeks. I have only found Thomann listing them at the time of writing. At the moment there is nothing on Fender’s own official website, but that may of course change in time.
I like offsets, I love Telecasters and am a huge fan of P90 pickups and large neck profiles, but this particular guitar visually is a little too brown for my tastes, but I reckon it will sound really good.
