Looks like Epiphone has had a busy release schedule today. Earlier in the day, the company announced three new models from its late ’50s catalogue, and now we have two new Inspired By Gibson ES-339 and the ES-335 models. Both are very popular semi-hollow electrics, now available at a much lower price point than the American-made originals.

After today’s announcement of the Epiphone Wilshire, Coronet and Crestwood Custom models, plus the welcome release of these iconic acoustic guitars, Epiphone brings us the Inspired by Gibson ES-335 and ES-339 models. Epiphone makes some fantastic instruments that are within the reach of most players’ budgets, and to be able to get classic, good quality instruments like these for a reasonable price… well, let’s just say it’s a good time to be alive.
The Epiphone Inspired By Gibson ES-335 is based on the iconic 1958 Gibson design. It’s a large body, semi-hollow electric that has since become instantly recognisable. The body is constructed using a layered maple top, back and sides, along with a central solid maple tone block. The mahogany neck has a rounded C profile and it sports the new Kalamazoo headstock shape.
It comes loaded with a set of Epiphone Alnico Classic PRO Humbuckers, with dual volume and tone controls, and a pickup selector switch located below the bridge. The hardware is Epiphone branded, and it uses CTS pots. You can get the guitar in a Cherry or Vintage Sunburst finish, or, if you opt for one with a figured maple top, a Blueberry Burst or Raspberry Tea Burst finish.
The Inspired By Gibson ES-339 is basically a smaller version of the ES-335 above, with an almost identical configuration as its bigger sibling. So if the size of the traditional ES-335 was too cumbersome, the smaller form of the ES-339 should be more manageable. It has exactly the same pickup configuration as the ES-335, as well as the same control layout. So essentially, the same guitar, just more compact.
The Inspired By Gibson ES-339 is available in Cherry, Pelham Blue, Vintage Sunburst and Natural finishes.
