CableGuys has a new plug-in out – HalfTime. With it, those clever developers are taking on the half-speed effects popular across EDM genres, and making a mean creative tool out of them.
With HalfTime, the half-speed effect is achieved instantly the moment the plug-in is initiated, then the result is yours to shape with the creative controls.
For example, you can fade in the effect smoothly in up to 16 bars, or use three speed modes to obtain harmonies, shuffling, or quad-time playback. The adjustable loop length control makes it possible to stretch slow-downs over multiple bars for tight-cut rhythmic effects.
Finally, there’s the multi-band split option that makes it possible to slow-down frequency ranges of choice – lows, mids, or highs. The effects can be blended in parallel with the dry signal using the Mix knob, and the plug-in easily hands itself to automation.
HalfTime’s user interface is very intuitive and typical of CableGuys’ style, except the color scheme is green rather than yellow – it pays to switch it up from time to time.
Overall, HalfTime seems like a pretty cool effect that’s likely to land a spot in the arsenal of anyone into mainstream EDM or time-stretching audio experimentation. We like how CableGuys took the concept of a mini-effect, the half-time slowdown, and expanded onto it with their creative flair.
The plug-in makes for an excellent little tool with a clearly defined purpose that still invites experimentation. HalfTime can handle both loops and live audio, so throw it onto whatever you are working on to see what comes and goes.
