Boss has just announced an extensive update for its Katana guitar amplifier series. Version 2 comes, amongst other things, with new effect types, duplicated onboard effect and tone setting memory as well as extended direct-out options. Already own a Katana amp? The best part is that these new features won’t cost you a thing.
Version 2 with new effects
With the exception of the Katana Mini, all Katana Amps can access the new Boss effects. These can be customized using the free Boss Tone Studio editor software. New in version 2 are the SDE-3000 Delay, the 90E Phaser and the Flanger 117E, as well as a channel EQ and a global parametric equaliser. This brings the total of effects available to 58.
The Hall section has also been reworked, and can now also be used for delay or delay/reverb combinations. Katana models with an integrated effect loop now have extended send and return capabilities. This should lead to greater flexibility when using external effects. These features can also be configured via the Boss Tone Studio software.
V2 Katana amps also have an additional bank for tone settings, letting you save more Amp-Channel and Effect-Setup programs than with the previous models.
Feature import from Boss’s Waza series
Also new is the Cabinet Resonance function, which Boss brought across from its larger Waza amps. It should now be possible to change the dynamic interaction between the output and the loudspeaker by means of three selectable resonance types. Furthermore, in version 2, three “Airfeel” selections from the Waza series have been included, adding speaker simulations to the Line and USB outputs.
The update to version 2 of the Boss Katana Amps is available as a free download and can be updated via a USB connection and a computer. Supported models include the Katana Head, Katana-50, Katana-100, and Katana-100/212.
