As we’re getting ready for NAMM 2020, let’s not forget about our weekly collection of free plug-ins. This week, we have to make do with just two. But that’s fine, because at least one of them is an absolute must-have. Check out Big Fish Audio Momentum and BAT-S12 from beatassist.eu!
Want more? You’ll find many more free plug-ins in our huge archives.
Big Fish Audio Momentum
Big Fish Audio is best known for its sample packs, but they’ve just dropped a killer of a freeware plug-in. Momentum is a fully featured looping studio with 18 effects. You can slice loops, apply effects like stutter, reverse, and lo-fi to each slice individually, and use MIDI to rearrange them in whichever way you like. Momentum also matches the tempo and pitch of loops to your track. Several samples can be layered, and the plug-in supports multiple outputs. A one-shot engine lets you extract one-shot samples from loops. It’s quite astonishing that Momentum is completely free. Yes, you need a Big Fish Audio user account and you can purchase their loops directly from the plug-in if you wish, but Momentum works just as well on your own samples, so it’s more than just a sales vehicle for their content. Thumbs up!
Big Fish Audio Momentum is available for macOS 10.11 and up and Windows 7 and up in VST, AU and AAX formats.
BAT-S12 from beatassist.eu is a drum sampler plug-in with 12 sample slots, which imports WAV or AIFF files. For each slot, you can set the pitch, gate, loop, and direction, and sample start and end points. There’s also an envelope with attack and release, a multi-mode filter, and an LFO for modulation in each slot. Furthermore, every slot offers a stereo delay which syncs to the host tempo, and a reverb. BAT-S12 looks like a very useful sampling drum machine, and it’s completely free.
BAT-S12 is only available for Windows 7 and up in VST and VST3 formats (32/64 bit).
