With remote work on the rise, manufacturers are creating more convenient solutions for wireless communication. It only makes sense that we see the new Audio-Technica ATH-M20x BT2 Bluetooth headphones compete in this space.

Audio-Technica is a headphone manufacturer of some repute, with its ATH-M series being a household name in studios for many years. At first glance, you might mistake them for the ATH-M20x, and rightly so, as the XBT2 is based on the same design.

However, on closer inspection, you’ll see that the left earpiece has buttons for calls and playback, alongside inputs for stereo mini-jack and charging via USB.

Audio Technica ATH M20 XBT2 features:

Equipped with the same 40 mm Driver with neodymium magnet and copper-clad aluminium wire voice coils, the XBT2 offers the same high-quality performance and frequency response you’d expect from the wired M20x. The difference is the XBT2 is a slightly lower impedance headphone, aimed for pairing with a wide range of Bluetooth devices.

They feature multipoint Bluetooth connectivity, allowing you to monitor audio from two separate sources. There is a low-latency mode to reduce any sync issues with live streaming. In addition, the XBT2 offers 60 hours of playback and a 10-minute fast charging mode.

The XBT2 is based on a studio headphone design. This means it doesn’t feature ANC and isn’t aimed for active/outdoor use. The cushioned ear-cups, however, do provide rather splendid isolation already. This means you’re unlikely to go wanting, especially with headphones on the more entry-level side of the market.

Overall, Audio-Technica does possess a knack for creating affordable products with great build and audio quality. No doubt the XBT2 is in the same vein.

    Nice review Stefan!

The Audio-Technica ATH-M20XBT performs adequately when it comes to capturing speech, although the microphone quality may not amaze you.

just read about the Audio-Technica ATH-M20x BT2 headphones and I’m kinda intrigued. I’ve heard good things about Audio-Technica’s headphones before, especially for studio use. But I’m wondering, since these are based on the studio design but are also Bluetooth, do they lose any audio quality when used wirelessly? Also, the article mentions a 60-hour playback, which is awesome, but does the battery life get affected much if you’re using them at higher volumes or with the low-latency mode on? Thanks in advance for any info!
