Arturia’s PolyBrute redefined the mid-range analogue polysynth market when it was released almost three years ago to the day. A subsequent v2 firmware upgrade came out a year later, adding numerous new and useful features and bug fixes. They even added a ‘Noir Version’. However, the user community has been growing restless of late with no further update since. The natives were getting restless. So it will be a very welcome surprise to many that Arturia has just released v3.0. It adds a bunch of great stuff and fixes some annoying niggles along the way. Let’s take a look…

Distortion

In addition to the extensive FX section, we now have a new category called Distortion. This includes 7 types of distortion to the mix. These include…

  • Subtle Tape
  • Classic Distortion
  • Soft Clip
  • Worn Out Tape
  • Germanium
  • Bit Crusher
  • Downsample

Germanium sounds interesting, and who doesn’t love a bit of tape distortion?

FX Routing

In addition to the new Distortion FX, PolyBrute now allows you to be more flexible with their routing. Insert & Send modes can now be adjusted in terms of their order.

Enhanced Tuning

PolyBrute’s tuning features are now expanded to allow tuning of individual oscillators more deeply with better transposition options.

Stereo Layer mode

This new mode allows you to allocate one voice to the left channel and one to the right giving you increased natural width to your patches.

New Presets and Update to PolyBrute Connect

PolyBrute already has a pretty large library of content, both in factory presets and numerous Arturia and 3rd party patch packs. Well, another 350 have been added to take advantage and show off the new features. To manage these sounds, PolyBrute Connect has always been a useful, if somewhat tetchy, tool. Now PolyBrute Connect receives a significant overhaul that makes communication between computer and synth much smoother. It also adds all the new firmware features into the interface.

Bugs and Fixes

Despite the silence from Chateau Arturia, they have been listening, and the v3 firmware addresses a large number of bugs and workflow enhancements demanded by the community. More features and parameters are now displayed on screen in real-time.

More Information

PolyBrute v3 firmware is available now via PolyBrute Connect. It is free to all PolyBrute owners.

Makes me wonder if they’ve abandoned the MatrixBrute or if they just feel they have it perfect at this point, software wise. Would love to see a 3.0 update for mine.
