Developer Audio Brewers released a feature-rich Mono/Stereo/Ambisonics delay plug-in called ab Delay. The effect offers 4 independent delays (in Parallel or Serial mode) and each line has three-dimensional delay positioning with features like Rate control (rhytmic or time-based), filters (HP/LP), Feedback and Wet controls. Here’s a brief overview of what ab Delay can do…
Audio Brewers ab Delay
ab Delay is a powerful delay designed with Spatial Positioning in mind. Whether you are working with a Mono, Stereo or Ambisonics source (1OA, 2OA, 3OA), ab Delay automatically adapts its input to properly output a Stereo or Ambisonics signal which you can later decode to binaural, Surround, Atmos beds and custom speaker arrays. Neat!
As ab Delay works natively in Ambisonics, it means you can apply spatial transformations to the Delay for three-dimensional effects! The signal bounces from left to right, front to back, top to bottom, or any direction. Up to 4 independent delay lines can work either in Parallel, Serial, or combined.
The possibility to expand a traditional Mono or Stereo sound source to Ambisonics (and any Surround, Atmos, or Immersive format) is also quite intriguing. Regardless if your input audio is in Mono, Stereo or Ambisonics, ab Delay will automatically detect and adapt the output signal to the width of your track automatically. Furthermore, Ambisonics output can be decoded to any speaker array configuration – Stereo, Binaural, Surround, Atmos Beds and so on. There are also high and low-pass filters with resonance shaping to customise the colour of your delay.
ab Delay is a powerful tool, all things considered. I don’t have the equipment to properly hear the 3D audio stuff it has going, but I imagine multi-channel enthusiasts will find a lot to like here.
ab Delay – Price and availability
ab Delay is sold at an introductory price of EUR 59 (down from EUR 79). The discount is valid until April 28, 2022. The plug-in works in VST, AU, and AAX formats for macOS 10.14+ (M1 & Intel) and Windows 10+. No demo version is provided.
ab Delay is compatible with any DAW in mono/stereo mode. For Ambisonics signals, a compatible decoder and DAW should be used. Audio Brewers proposes its own ab Decoder Suite to check out.
