UVI Dual Delay X is an exciting new delay plug-in that looks like a sound designer’s dream. With features like spatial rotation, modulation, feedback shaping, and diffusion, it’s definitely one of the more interesting approaches to delay we’ve seen in a while. Is this the plug-in that’ll make you want to buy yet another delay?

UVI Dual Delay X

Delay plug-ins are plentiful, and most are just reiterations of the same ideas. After all, what could you possibly do with a bunch of repetitions that hasn’t been done before? The new Dual Delay X by UVI also starts with a handful of familiar parameters: delay time, feedback, and L/R offset. But that’s only the beginning.

In addition to this, UVI Dual Delay X offers a host of unique features designed to create spatial, swirling, modulated echoes that defy the boundaries of a traditional delay. According to the developer, the unitary rotation and reflection matrices used in Dual Delay X are similar to the ones found in reverbs, but tuned for longer, distinct echoes. In short, the plug-in lets you manipulate the stereo field in ways that other delays aren’t capable of. The Rotation/Reflection section sends your delays on a journey through time and space, which is instantly visualized by the stereo and phase graphs.

Furthermore, Dual Delay X lets you shape the sound of the delay in a number of ways. The Feedback Shaping section includes several filters, as well as a unique Compensate feature that lets you use more extreme feedback effects without having the level spin out of control. Moreover, the Diffusion and Dispersion sections take the sound more towards a lush reverb. And finally, you can dial in some Tape Saturation or Digital Grit.

While Dual Delay X can of course also produce simple echoes, its strengths obviously lie in spatial manipulation and creative sound shaping. A very interesting release to say the least – even if you’ve already got more delays than you can count. And the launch price is surprisingly affordable, so grab it while it’s cheap!

Price and compatibility

UVI Dual Delay X is now available for an introductory price of €29. This offer is good through July 31, 2022, after which the price will increase to €59.

The plug-in runs on macOS 10.14 or higher and Windows 10 or higher. It’s available in VST, VST3, AU, and AAX formats. You’ll need an iLok account for activation.
