Feel the sting with WMD Skorpion, a forthcoming module that strikes with a new form of wavefolding. Preorders open now!

WMD Skorpion

The Cinderella story of the Eurorack world continues with the announcement of Skorpion, a new wavefolder module from WMD and something of a comeback for a company that seemed destined to die. Die it did not, however, announcing in 2023 that it was back, restructuring, and looking towards the future. That future is now, and the announcement of WMD Skorpion, a rather wild-looking wavefolder module that can create “goosebump worthy sounds you’ve never heard before.”

WMD Skorpion: Waveform Reanimator

WMD Skorpion is the end result of five years of “conceptualization, development, stress, company destruction and relocation, redesign, existential questions, prototyping, and sheer willpower,” according to the accompanying press release. Although this is only the announcement of a forthcoming product that’s still in its prototyping stage (the ninth and final, apparently), it sounds pretty remarkable.

Dubbed a ‘waveform reanimator,’ the 20HP Skorpion uses a novel, vector-based style of wavefolding, one that uses thresholds and target voltages to control a vector core. According to WMD, “Skorpion is an eight-stage equivalent analog wavefolder that allows you to precisely mangle simple waveforms into complex shapes with a fun, hands-on fader interface.”

Additionally, internal modulation sources allow for simultaneous macro animation of multiple parameters (Fold, Slope, Shape, Shift, and all eight Thresholds), with the slope and shape controls giving you control over harsher or smoother added harmonics.

Other parameters include hard and soft sync, LFO and envelope modes, mono to stereo operation with CV control over dry, wet and wide stereo effects, a proprietary vector-based stereo delay, and mid/side processing over bass and high frequencies.

WMD Skorpion: Price and Availability

There are no audio or video demos yet for WMD Skorpion (or actual product shots). The manufacturer hopes to have demos up on its YouTube page soon.

Currently, WMD is hoping to ship Skorpion in September or October 2025. However, this may be delayed due to ongoing issues with the availability of parts and knock-on effects from tariffs. However, preorders are price-locked and will not be affected by any changes in economic policies. The price is $999.

    Price locked at $999?? Bwahahahaha

10/10 this thing doesn’t live up to the price.

WMD fell off hard, I wouldn’t buy this cluttered interface at Behringer prices.
