The new Torpedo Captor X load box and cab sim from Two notes Audio Engineering is finally here, and it looks like it might give its rivals a serious run for their money! It first made an appearance back during Winter NAMM, and now this new challenger is ready to take on the big boys!

Two notes Torpedo Captor X

The new Two notes Torpedo Captor X combines a load box and cab sim into one compact and feature-packed little device. It includes a Stereo Expander with Stereo Reverb and Twin Tracker Enhancer, Voicing, Space, Noise Gate, and an XLR DI output. The box also has its own companion smartphone app.

The Torpedo Remote software can be used via USB with MIDI Windows and OSX on your computer, or wirelessly on your smartphone/tablet using Android or iOS.

The box comes with three routing options: Stereo, Dual Mono, and Dry/Wet. Its on-board Torpedo IR-based technology has Dual-miked Virtual Cabinets and a Dual IR Loader
, with 32 Virtual Cabinets, 128 preset locations, and 512 memory slots for your own custom IR files
. You also get 8 microphones per cabinet and 8 room simulations. There is also an Immersive Headphone Experience, perfect for those times when you need some quiet practise time, but don’t want to annoy the rest of your household.

With so many options, the Torpedo Captor X could well be the Swiss Army knife solution many guitarists are looking for.

Ox Killer?

Considering that it costs half the price of its competitors, this little box will surely give the Universal Audio Ox* and the Boss Waza Tube Expander a run for their money! As an added bonus, the Torpedo Captor X comes with the Two notes Wall of Sound plugin included, which you can use for processing dry recordings in your DAW. And thanks to its compact form, transporting it to sessions or gigs, along with your amp, shouldn’t be much of a hassle.

As far as I’m concerned, this new little ‘do it all box’ ticks all the right boxes for me, and at this price, it will be hard to beat.

RRP – USD 549 /GBP 469

But the question you avoided was is it as good as the competition.
Being cheaper rarely if ever is a good basis for a purchase.
