Waves drops COSMOS AI-powered Sample Finder (free) and CR8 Creative Sampler (USD 10)
Holding onto its promise, Waves released a free piece of software called COSMOS together with a plug-in – CR8 Creative Sampler – which you can have for a tenner during the introductory sale. Here’s more about Waves’ newfound love for sampling…
Waves COSMOS – find samples easily
COSMOS is a sample librarian plug-in which brings together all your one-shots and loops. Like other modern plug-ins of its kind, such as Algonaut Atlas 2, COSMOS uses Waves’ neural network tech to analyze, tag, and sort your sample collection. You can see all your samples laid out in 3 views: Waveform, List, and Cosmos. You can filter and search all your one-shots and loops by instrument, BPM, key, or even sonic characteristics such as brightness, saturation, and dynamics.
So if you need a thick, saturated kick sound – just type “saturated” and “kick” and COSMOS will spill them up. You can also choose the appropriate tags and COSMOS will find the matching samples.
You can also audition your samples within COSMOS and drop them straight into your DAW. COSMOS works as a standalone app or from within the Waves CR8 Creative Sampler plug-in, which we’ll talk about in a second. It also comes loaded with 2500+ one-shots and loops.

Waves CR8 Creative Sampler
The Waves CR8 Creative Sampler plug-in lets you turn any sound into a playable instrument. To that, it offers 8 sample layers to stack and mix samples, or split them across your keys. There are several time-stretching algorithms – Voice, Beats, Melodic, Harmonic and Classic. Each lets you control pitch & time independently or apply real-time Key & BPM analysis to sync up with your session.
There are also Easy Loop, Reverse, Freeze and more options for instant control over sample playback. You can also shape color and timbre from the built-in filters and ADSR envelopes. 4 LFO/Sequencer modulators and 4 ADSR envelopes handle modulation. You can also map your keyboard’s aftertouch, velocity, mod-wheel and pitch-wheel controls to most of CR8’s parameters for expressive playing.
CR8 integrates with the free Waves COSMOS AI-powered Sample Finder, which sorts and auto-tags all your samples. You also get over 800 CR8 sampler presets, together with the COSMOS factory library of over 2500 sounds.
