Ampworx Dual Wreck

If you have not yet guessed the name, behind the Ampworx Dual Wreck is a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier, or an imitation of the signature sound of the classic high-gain tube amplifier. Like the previous Ampworx pedals, the pedal is quite simple.

It has 6 controls with 3-band EQ, volume, gain and tight, plus an additional control for presence on the top next to the inputs. In addition to the in and out, there is also a DI Out with Cab Sim, a (mini) USB connection and a toggle switch for the boost position pre or post.

Ampworx Jims 800

Here, too, the name actually says it all. The Jims 800 contains the sound of a Marshall JCM 800 tube amplifier, another classic of rock guitar history with the typical-tight sound of the 1980s.

By the way, Jim is the first name of Jim Marshall, the inventor and namesake of the amps.

Boost

The structure is identical to Dual Wreck, with the difference that instead of the tight control it has a Boost knob instead. This controls the level for the boost mode.

Ampworx V550

The third new pedal is the V550, which is supposed to deliver the classic Eddie Van Halen sound. Behind it is a replica of the ’90s Peavey 5150, which still accompanies rock and metal bands on stages and in studios.

Like the other two, the V550 is equipped with 3-band EQ, gain and level. In addition, there is again the Reso(nance) controller, which is already installed in the “Mesa” version of the series.

Verdict

I would guess that these affordable new high-gain versions of the Ampworx series could be popular because they are so wallet-friendly. However, there is a lot of competition for high-gain amp tones; everything from software emulations to individual pedals and amp modelling floor pedals has high-gain tones covered.

If you need one, specific. high-gain amp tone in a pedal-sized format then these TC Ampworx pedals could be for you.
