TC Electronic Ampworx Vintage Series

This new TC Electronic Ampworx Vintage Series offers guitarists the tones of old 1960s Fender, Marshall and Vox amps. But instead of large tube-driven combos, and stacks instead players can carry around these compact Combo Deluxe 65’, JIMS 45 and DC30 pedals.

Amp Channels

Each pedal has two channels that can be accessed via the Channel footswitch and consists of six basic amp controls, plus an extra footswitch that is assigned to an effect, either Boost or Reverb, depending on the model.

They all have built-in cab sims, USB connectivity and DI on a 1/4” output, plus a handy 1/4” headphones output.

Combo Deluxe 65’

The Combo Deluxe ’65 is based on a Fender 1965 Blackface Reverb Deluxe combo and has Bass, Middle and Treble controls, a Reverb knob plus standard Level and Gain controls.

The reverb should give you those classic Fender spring reverb tones, though this one is a digital recreation. It also has a control on the back of the pedal for adjusting the reverb’s tone and a Bright switch.

It comes with a Celestion 1×12 G12M Creamback cab sim built in.

This seemingly looks good – amp pedals that are much more affordable than the ones from Universal Audio, and from a respected company. But remember, TC Electronic has never done any kind of amp modeling before (correct me if I’m wrong), and they’re owned by Music Tribe. I’m willing to bet that these amp models are from Behringer, likely directly from their discontinued V-Amp, their $100 cut-rate version of a Line 6 Pod, which can’t compete at all with the current generation of amp modeling.

Did we really need ANOTHER trio of Marshall/Vox/Fender preamp pedals? I mean, isn’t there a bunch of companies that did it across all price ranges? Nux, Joyo, Tech 21, Vox, Strymon, AMT, Victory, UAD, Mooer, Kingsley, Two Notes, and that’s only a partial list. I wish more companies would care about releasing original products that have their own sound, like KSR Ceres and Vesta, Driftwood Purple Preamp, Benson and too many few.
