It models the sonic character Fusion’s transformer unit, a 600-ohm, 1:1 under-damped one. That might not mean much in the digital domain, but this transformer is essentially the source of the legendary SSL sound. As it imprints additional harmonic distortion while also rolling off the very lows of the input signal in a way that many describe as very musical.
Shine on you crazy analog emulation
With the “Shine” parameter on SSL Fusion Transformer, you determine the amount of high-frequency phase shift the SSL Fusio Transformer imprints on the signal. This way the signal’s harsh upper highs are tamed much more musically than a conventional EQ with a high-shelf band could. Then, with the “Amount” dial, you set the amount of harmonic distortion.
