In other words, this VST not only compresses musically, it also does it in way that the outcome does not sound harsh. Which is can happen quite quickly if you use a standard digital compressor.

Because our ears our more sensitive towards higher frequencies, those ranges can sound a lot harsher when compressed and subsequently turned louder. The SSL Fusion HF Compressor creates buttery smooth compression without digital harshness. With its very few controls, it works a bit like the LA-2A. There no controls for setting attack or release.
A program-dependent compressor
The SSL Fucion HF Compressor is what we in the industry call a program-dependent compressor. Which is just fancy-speak for saying it reacts depending on what you feed into it. So if you put it in a track with a bass line, HF Compressor will even it out in the most musical way. And if you want to make your drums punchier, the VST will do so, too!
With Threshold, you set the level at which it starts working. X-Over sets the frequency range HF Compressor focusses on. So if you want it to ignore the boomy low frequencies of a kick drum, you just turn it up a notch. And then with Mix, you can use the plugin to apply parallel compression, which can really make your mixes pop.
