PRS has just announced a limited run Mark Tremonti Baritone Signature Model guitar conceived in cooperation with the Alter Bridge player and using his signature PRS pickups as part of its core tone. The guitar has been designed to be tuned far lower than Standard Concert pitch.
Half an inch
Yes, just half an inch is all it takes to go from high to low, apparently. By adjusting the regular PRS scale length of 25″ and adding an extra half to make it 25.5″, the Mark Tremonti Baritone can be tuned down to C#, F#, B, E, G#, C#.
Also, you won’t need to use a wound G string to achieve that low-end thump either, so you can bend strings with ease. PRS claim it will play just like a regular tuned guitar, with the string tension not impeding your guitar soloing.
This is a hard-tail Tremonti with an adjustable PRS wrap-around bridge, PRS locking tuners and a set of Mark’s signature PRS humbuckers. There is the usual Singlecut control layout of two volumes, two tones and a three-way toggle switch on the upper bout.
The guitar features a mahogany body and flamed maple cap with a figured maple neck and an East Indian rosewood fretboard. The guitars come in either Black Gold Wraparound Burst, Charcoal Contour Burst, Copperhead, Faded Whale Blue, Fire Red Burst or Jade finishes.
They ship with 014 – .068 string gauge and are tuned in drop C# from the factory. A PRS Black Paisley hardshell case is included.
The statement below from PRS says it all:
There is no limit to the number of Tremonti Baritone signature guitars that will be made, but the order window is from October 6, 2016 through December 20, 2016 only.
So you will need to be quick and also take a leap of faith, as there are none to try before you buy. However, I suspect they will be popular with Tremonti fans and PRS collectors alike. Maybe one day they will become a standard model, especially if the limited run proves to be popular.
