I originally thought these were just custom paint jobs to liven up the serious look of the Polyend Tracker but actually, there’s something quite cool going on.

Artist Editions

Polyend has introduced some Limited Artist Edition Trackers. They are designed to accompany the vinyl album releases of the participating artist which in these first three is Bogdan Raczynski, Legowelt and Pete Cannon. The visual design is created by the artist giving them a unique and personalised look, but that’s not all. With the Tracker AE model you also get the original project files and sample packs from the album. This turns it into a very original way to release new music.

Of course, you’d have to be quite a fan to want to buy into the albums creative methodology but it does come with quite a unique bundle. Along with the limited edition Tracker you also get original and unpublished Tracker projects, a vinyl copy of the album or EP and a signature sample pack.

I think the visual designs are pretty great and make for an attractive device on their own. At €699 they are €200 more than the regular Tracker so these are definitely aimed at people who want something a bit special, and as they are only making 300 of each they are a little bit exclusive.

Bogdan Raczynski

With this banana infused bundle you get the Banans 4-track EP.

More to come?

Polyend indicates that there could be more to come in the Artist Edition series and it will be interesting to see how successful they are. With the music world looking for new and interesting ways to release music and harness marketable products we may see much more of this sort of thing like we saw with the Novation Aphex Twin Bass Station II. You’ll need quite a devoted fan base I think.

Started out on an Amiga tracker. This Polyend tracker is cool, ideal for anyone who likes that way of sequencing, or anyone who wants to learn making music from scratch. You can also get 128 track tracker programs for Windows PC, and they are free! There are website archives of millions of tracker tunes, most of which stick resolutely to the original 4 track only ethic. The idea was always to use your skill to get the absolute most out of only 4 tracks. Tracker music has never gone away, the Polyend unit is just the first hardware device, and the new colour schemes just add to it.
